About Us

We are the UK Pelagic Habitats Expert Group
The UK Pelagic Habitats Expert Group provides the link between plankton science and decision making in the UK, connecting pelagic habitats and society.

Over more than a decade of collaborative research, this group has substantially progressed understanding of not only plankton functional diversity, but also how healthy plankton communities provide the essential ecosystem services, upon which we all depend. Our work has provided evidence for UK, EU, and international decision making around sustainable use of our pelagic habitats. We have contributed to biodiversity and ecosystem assessments at multiple political and spatial scales.

The Group is comprised of around twenty members across 11 institutions – all who are interested in plankton are welcome so please get in touch if you would like to join us. Equality and inclusivity are important to our group ethos, and we encourage participation from PhD students and postdocs as well as more experienced researchers.
